Improvised Plasma Cutter (Dead Space 2)

Here's my take on the Plasma Cutter from Dead Space 2! All pictures are the rigged game-ready low poly. Dead Space is one of my favorite franchises, and after playing through the remake, I felt particularly inspired to make some fan art. I went with the Dead Space 2 plasma cutter because its my favorite design, it just has such cool shapes. Also, since the character improvises it from a flashlight and surgical laser, there are neat details like exposed wires and tape, etc. I made an interior view as well here - there's not much documentation for the inside but I figured since the backend is the flashlight it would be very simple looking. I took inspiration from the Ruby Semi-Conductor item in the game, and how the player upgrades weapons. So its a circuit board with little Power Nodes based on the node tree in the game.

For the level of detail I wanted to achieve, I looked at the incredible work by Gregory Trusov.

The back opens to reveal a circuit board, based on the actual upgrade tree in the game and a ruby semi-conductor.
